Located on England's southern coast in the country of Hampshire, Portsmouth is a wonderful city of approximately 190,000. Having spent centuries as home to an important port, it boasts the oldest dry dock in the world still in use as well as many famous boats and ships.
While Portsmouth lost importance as a military port a few years back, it still maintains a major shipyard and base for the Royal Navy. There is a commercial port that links to the mainland for people and cargo.
The majority of Portsmouth tourist attractions bear witness to its celebrated naval history. Some examples include: the D-Day Museum, the Royal Marina Museum, and a shipyard where you can visit several famous ships- the HMS Victory, the HMS Warrior and the remains of the Mary Rose.
