Summer English Course in Blackrock, Ireland

English Summer Course in Blackrock (Dublin), Ireland

Study English in Blackrock

Blackrock is a district of Dublin which gets its name from the black rock that sits on the shore of the beach and represents the city limits. It's mainly a residential neighborhood and is located 8 kilometers from the center of Dublin. It is an example of one of the safest towns in Ireland, a reason which has led us to choose it as a destination for our youngest students.

Participant Ages

Residential: ages 11 - 15
Family: ages 12 - 15

Course Dates & Duration

July 3 - July 24 (3 weeks)

Academic Center

Blackrock College, including Willow Park, is a large educational complex. It has a large acreage of parks and playing fields and provides beautiful views of the Dublin Bay. The school was originally founded in 1860. Part of this large complex includes "The Castle", a historic construction dating back to 1780 and formerly called Williamstown Castle. The school is situated next to the Booterstown DART train station and the center of Dublin is just 10 minutes away in train or 25 minutes in bus.

The center offers: a heated pool, numerous playing fields for soccer (football) and rugby, tennis courts, running tracks, basketball court, volleyball court and table games. Students should bring their own racquet.

Course Characteristics

Students will have 20 lessons per week in small groups (maximum of 15 students). Students will take a level test upon their arrival to determine their level of English and place them in the correct learning group. Students will receive teaching in grammar, vocabulary, conversation, comprehension and listening, and classes will alternate between the mornings and afternoons (the schedule varies each week). Each lesson is equivalent to 45 minutes of class.

Accommodation

Students will be able to stay, depending on their arrival, on campus in double, triple or quadruple rooms with shared bathrooms. For the youngest students we have two dormitories with more than 4 beds. Students may also choose to stay with Irish host families where they will stay in double rooms, shared with another international student. Both options are full board. The host families are all within 10 to 30 minutes away from the academic center.

Activities & Sports

The program includes a diverse and complete program of activities, held after class and after dinner (students staying with a family will have two activities per week after dinner and those staying on campus will have activities everyday). Students will be able to play a variety of sports, and enjoy movie nights, contests, international parties... Additionally, the program also includes two half day excursions per week to places like Dublin, Bray, Dun Laoghaire, etc. and one full-day excursion per week to cities like Glendalough and Kilkenny.

Counselors

Students will be accompanied at all times by Spanish and local counselors.
